Warren Ski Club

Racing Program

As a WSC member, you can join our famous BLACK SHEEP RACE TEAM!!!
We compete in the CMSC (Cleveland Metro Ski Council) Race Program - consisting of 15 Ski Clubs racing on weekends at various resorts. Skiers and Snowboarders compete with those of the same class (skill level) - and there are several classes, ranging from "Are you crazy? I can barely ski!" to "speedsuits and custom wax".

To determine your class, you "qualify" by doing 2 runs down the course at any CMSC race. Your first chance to qualify for 2010 is January 6 at Boston Mills (see schedule below). As you're skills and times improve, you will bump up through the classes. Go at your own pace and race as much or as little as you want!!!

Each race consists of 2 runs, leaving plenty of time to cheer on your teammates, free ski and sit at the bar.

At the end of each race day, all teams gather for the awards ceremony. Trophies are given and team points are calculated.
After awards, prizes are given away by vendors and ski resorts - boot bags, lift tickets, gift certificates and even ski's!!!! You're almost gauranteed to go home with free stuff - at least a new t-shirt or something that blinks incessantly.

And don't forget your free shot at the bottom of the hill after your runs. Yager is not just for breakfast anymore.
So whether you've never tried racing or you're a seasoned vet - it's a great way to be part of a team, improve your skiing/boarding skills and make some unforgettable friends.

2010 RACING

Clinics, Qualifier, Memorial Race

Kissing Bridge Race Clinics/Ski Lessons: January 2-3, 2010 AND January 24, 2010. Come run the gates with us and receive coaching from KB experts on both slalom and GS. If you prefer a lesson instead, you can do that too!! It's a great way to improve your skiing and racing skills - and to make new friends. Discounted lift tickets are available. Clinics are held at Kissing Bridge Ski Area in Glenwood, New York. No bus for these trips, so we drive up and stay at the Microtel in Springville (716)592-3141. The clinics are for ALL skill levels.

Boston Mills Race Qualifier : Wednesday, January 6, 2010. If you are new to racing, or if you did not race at least 2 days last season, come to Boston Mills to qualify. If you did race 2 or more days, come to ski, race and get ramped up for the season. Last year, CMSC had over 100 racers qualify!!!

Cockaigne Memorial Race : Sunday, January 30, 2010 is our Memorial Race for our dearly departed heavenly gatekeepers. This is an easily managed GS race on a moderate slope . Besides being for an outstanding cause, it's also a wild beach party - so bring your beads and flowered shirts!!! There's a bus going up for this one (2 day trip to Peek'n Peak/Cockaigne), so sign up now!!! (more...)

Give-Aways

Rich Edwards at "R" Ski and Snowboards (Austintown, OH) is donating $50 and $100 gift certificates at several races this season. All registered racers have an equal chance to win!!! Stop by "R" Ski and support the local businesses that support our club.
